MAKER FAIRE!!!

Last weekend was Maker Faire at the New York Hall of Science in Queens and the only food related booth I found (other than sustainable farming) was for the Pancake Bot.

The demo was kind of, Ehhhhhhh, and I think they talked about the batter more than the bot itself but all in all pancake bot is pretty cool. Unless your pouring your batter out from a pyrex or another kind of pitcher, it can get messy. The ladle gets all goopy and batter ends up all over the place.

Cupcakes for Dexter premiere

Redditor pommedauphine posted a photo of the awesome cupcakes Showtime hired her to bake for the premiere of the new season of Dexter. These are beautiful, the sugar glass is crystal clear and I really think I have to bake these for my colleagues for Halloween.

Candy Corn Flavored Oreos.

The arrival of fall means only one thing in the food world, pumpkin. flavored. everything. But Nabisco took it one step grosser with the limited edition candy corn flavored Oreo available only at Target. Why Nabisco would introduce an Oreo flavored like a candy that is the first to go from trick-or-treat bag to garbage can is beyond me but of course I’m going to try and hunt down a bag this weekend and attempt to push it on my colleagues Monday morning.

Happy Birthday Julia Child!

Sadly, the legendary and iconic chef died in 2004 but today would have been her 100th birthday. So let’s raise our glass -or bottle- of gin and pour some out for the Queen of the Kitchen and the inspiration for that awful Amy Adams movie.

Introducing The Pizzabon.

I have nothing to say about Cinnabon’s latest offering (currently available only in Georgia) other than whoever actually seeks this out to eat for enjoyment deserves to have their colon fall out afterwards.

Mission Accomplished: Plot to Smuggle Six ILLEGAL Kinder Surprise Eggs into the U.S. Foiled by Border Guards.

In a much earlier post I mentioned Kinder Surprise Eggs being illegal in the Unites States due to the “non-nutritive object” hiding inside, plotting to choke and kill numerous American children and it seems the U.S border patrol is really earning their paychecks keeping these confectionary terrorists out of the country. U-S-A!!! U-S-A!!! U-S-A!!!

Last week a Seattle couple returning home from a trip to Vancouver were detained at the US-Canada border for carrying six of the prohibited eggs and faced a fine of $15,000 -that’s $2,500 per delicious, chocolatey egg. But after being detained for more than two hours, border patrol agents waived off the offense and let the couple and their Kinder Eggs cross the border with a warning.

World’s Most Expensive Dishes.

When it’s 6:30pm and you’re putting on fingerless gloves to eat refried beans straight from the can, do you ever wonder what Ryan Gosling is eating for dinner? Where George Clooney is ordering from? How Jay-Z and Beyoncé are requesting their steaks done? This chart from visual.ly will give you an idea of what is possible for people who aren’t you.

Mashed Potato Slurpee.

$2.00 for a tub of mashed potatoes and gravy dispensed from a modified Slurpee machine and a 32 oz. Big Gulp? Not in NYC, amirite Mayor Bloomberg?!?! Actually, this won’t be available anywhere in the U.S…not even in Florida.

After seeing this, this is all I can think about…

Whopper with (1,000 slices of) Cheese.

You know how sometimes you’re out and you’ve had a few drinks and all is right in the world but as soon as you get home you’re on the couch saying to yourself, “I REALLY shouldn’t have had that last drink” and you’re looking at the one Zappos box you’ve been meaning to drop-off but see five of them moving around as if they were on a ferris wheel? And after a few minutes of holding your head in your hands mumbling, fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck, you’re convinced you just need to throw-up, go to bed and everything will be fine? Well, here’s a video to help you with that.

Orange Chiffon Cake

I baked this orange chiffon cake at my parents house over Father’s Day weekend because I was bored out of my skull and I like eating cake for breakfast. Also because I know my father likes orange. I don’t know if he liked it or not because he decided to stop talking to me that weekend but everyone else said it was pretty, pretty, prett-ay good.

Orange Chiffon Cake:
Recipe from America’a Test Kitchen Best Summer Desserts

(This recipe calls for a 16-cup tube pan. I used a 10-inch cake pan but will list the baking time for the tube pan.)
